School Cancellation Updates Due to COVID-19

Last Update: 03/16/2020 5:00PM

In light of the most recent mandate from Governor Evers concerning gatherings of over 50 people which begins at midnight tonight, we have decided to cancel school tomorrow.

We are asking that all work and materials be picked up tomorrow between 8 and 10 a.m. If this time slot does not work for you, please contact your child’s teacher directly to make other arrangements. Kindergarten packets will be sent with older siblings. We are asking that all Gr. 3-8 students accompany their parents so that they can gather everything they need from their desks, make sure they have enough library books to hold them for the duration, and hand in their work.

We will be handing out subs during this time as well since it was too late to cancel the order for tomorrow.

Much of the work we are asking the Gr. 3-8 students to do during the school closure are assignments that will need to be handed in. Miss Johnson is dividing the work that she plans to have the students do and not sending it home all at once. Because of this we are scheduling two drop off/pick up days for this to be accomplished. Tables will be set up in the entryway for this purpose. There will be a box for each classroom along with any materials you will need to take for your child.

Because of the COVID-19 closure of school and the uncertainty of the situation, it has been decided to cancel our scheduled spring break. If school is in session during Holy Week, we will still be taking off for Good Friday but then resuming classes on Monday. We know that this may adversely affect some families who have already made plans and that we will have some absences, but there don’t seem to be a lot of options at this time. Again, thank you for your understanding in this turbulent situation.

The entryway will be open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Monday, March 23 and again on Monday, March 30. We will schedule more of these days if it becomes necessary.

If you have any questions, please call school or contact your child’s teacher. Thank you for your understanding in this very trying situation.

We have just become aware of the Governor’s announcement that all K-12 schools in Wisconsin are mandated to shut down due to COVID-19 by Wednesday, March 18. At this time we plan to have school on Monday and Tuesday so that we can prepare the students and send all necessary materials home with them. Ripon and Princeton students will be bused. Green Lake parents should plan to transport their children at least on Monday as GLSD does not have school on Monday.

If your child does not have access to a tablet or laptop, please contact your child’s teacher. We have a limited number of Chromebooks at school that could be borrowed if necessary. We have been made aware of a program from Spectrum offering free internet for people who do not have it during this time. Please look into that if you need to.

Talent Night has also been canceled.

If you have questions, contact your child’s teacher directly.
